Slater mum on noggin bump

Steven Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who became an international icon for having a bad day when he cursed out passengers after arrival JFK and fled via the emergency chute, declined to explain why passengers have said he already had a cut on his head when they boarded the flight. An unidentified passenger opening a luggage compartment onto his head reportedly sparked Slater’s meltdown.

“I can’t say anything about it,” the New York Post quoted Slater as saying. Meanwhile, he finally got some time to relax with a visit to Rockaway Beach over the weekend and TMZ reported that the beer he grabbed before sliding to freedom was Blue Moon.

8 Spectators Killed In Off-Road Race

An off-road truck has ploughed into spectators at a night rally in southern California, killing eight people. Twelve others were injured – with some airlifted to hospital. The driver had to flee the crash site when the crowd turned against him. It’s thought he lost control of the vehicle after mistiming a jump at the start of the race. The annual California 200 event attracts thousands to watch dune buggy-style cars leap different obstacles.

According to the AP, it took rescue workers “more than a half-hour to reach the remote location of the California 200 in the Mojave Desert near Lucerne Valley.”

Here’s how one spectator described the scene:

“All I saw was the dust, and then I saw about 30 people on the ground. It was just brutal,’’ Musgrave, 43, told The Times. “The problem is the crowd was just too close. I don’t think the [racer] did anything stupid. He just hit it way too hard.”
