LI Couple Unconscious After Apparent Drug Binge; Toddler Left Alone

A Long Island couple will be arraigned Sunday after they were found unconscious after an apparent drug binge, with their 3-year-old son wandering nearby.

A teenager was walking on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood when he saw the couple, lying unconscious on the ground with their toddler wandering nearby. He called 911, and waited with the child until police arrived.

Nicholas Rieth, 30, of Mastic was found unconscious, holding two hypodermic needles, officers said. Alicia Descalzo, 26, also of Mastic, was lying beside him unconscious.

Both were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of suspected heroin use.

Rieth has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and related drug charges. Descalzo also faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

The couple’s son has been released to the custody of Suffolk County Child Protective Services.
